The horror movie that will make you question your beliefs

On this occasion, we will recommend a film that will take you on a journey through intrigue, mystery, and the supernatural, which will ultimately lead you to question your beliefs. This is The Awakening, released in 2011 and starring Rebecca Hall.

Also known as The Haunting of Rookford or Awakening of the Dead, the story takes us in the footsteps of Florence Cathcart (Hall), a writer and academic dedicated to exposing paranormal phenomena as frauds. Her skepticism will be put to the test when she is contacted by Professor Robert Mallory to investigate a series of strange paranormal phenomena at a boarding school in the English countryside.

What begins as a mission to expose alleged ghostly activity at the school turns into an intricate maze of secrets and revelations that defy logic and stretch the boundaries of the supernatural. As Florence delves deeper into the investigation, she will confront her own inner demons as she tries to uncover the truth behind the unexplained events plaguing the boarding school.

The Awakening was the debut of Nick Murphy on the big screen, who had previously worked on a few series. For his feature film debut, Murphy managed to create a somber and tense atmosphere that persists from start to finish. The setting during the postwar era becomes the backdrop to tell this story whose setting stands out above all. Gloomy and wintry exteriors together with gloomy and lonely interiors are combined in a plot that oscillates between the tangible world and the afterlife.

The performances also take a point in favor. Rebecca Hall shines as Florence Cathcart's portrait of her demonstrates her ability to convey both her intellectual strength and her personal vulnerabilities. The rest of the cast also shines by the hand of Dominic West, Imelda Staunton, and Isaac Hempstead-Wright.

This horror film is available in the Prime Video catalog in Latin America and Spain. Without a doubt, it is a good option for those who enjoy the supernatural horror genre but with great twists in the story that plunges us into a world in which the unknown and the inexplicable are intertwined intriguingly.
